Why RCDA
Rockport Coastal Dance Academy is devoted to inspiring each unique student that enters our doors. When a student joins RCDA, they are joining a loving and caring dance family that respects their desired level of training. Whether it is a student’s dream to dance recreationally, competitively, in college or professionally, we provide every student with the necessary solid foundation to achieve their goals.
We ensure a safe space for our dancers to be creative, take risks, be recognized for their efforts, and be challenged to go beyond their perceived limits. We encourage our dancers to be well rounded students and take the lessons they learn in dance to become independent and motivated to achieve. RCDA has a “never settle” approach which helps our students to gain a great work ethic and have that ready, willing and able attitude.
Students will train under the direction of Ms. April Hobson who prides herself in providing safe and proper dance training in a nurturing and fun environment. Students gain confidence, strength, coordination, musicality, flexibility and benefit from the social interactions of dance!
With over 20+ years of teaching & choreography experience, Ms. April has watched students become more confident, transform physically, grow stronger, learn how to persevere, develop team spirit and make strong lasting friendships. It is our goal at RCDA to keep instilling the love, and passion for dance, and expose our students to all the fun that dance provides.
Training at RCDA incorporates elements of ballet and Luigi jazz, including turns, jumps, extensions, floor work, isolations and gestures. Emphasis is on movement, motivation, musicality, flow, attack and use of the breath. Dancers are encouraged to not merely imitate the movement, but to find within themselves an honest physical expression of the passion, joy, or whatever emotion the music and choreography may suggest or inspire. The learning environment is supportive and encouraging - never judgmental or competitive, all while keeping with RCDA’s “never settle” approach. This allows every student, whether they aspire to dance professionally or recreationally, to feel supported in taking the risks that will enable them to grow, and to become articulate, passionate and fearless movers.
