PreK Dance
at RCDA
Classes start at age 16 months though age 5 years and include Pre-Ballet, Pre-Tap, Pre-Tumbling & Creative Movement.
For our youngest dancers we offer parent assisted classes as well as independent classes starting at age 2.
PreK Dance class explores basic movements, songs, and rhythms. All thing that encourage confidence being built in our tiniest dancers. Students will explore directional concepts, body awareness, and spatial relations with our trained PreK Faculty to guide them along the way. Props such as shakers, teddy bears, & ribbons are used in classes to allow dancers to be creative and to express movement. Basic dance moves are taught, including kicks, marches, clapping, etc.
Tap
One of the fundamental dance styles. Tap dance helps all levels of students learn musicality, timing, rhythm, balance and control. Tap dancers have the unique opportunity to be musicians and dancers at the same time.
Tap class will begin with a set warm up focused on technique, clarity of sound, musicality, and strengthening the mind and body. Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning and practicing a variety of tap steps, short phrases, tap turns, and choreography using different rhythms supported by a wide range of music. Developing confidence in tap improvisation will also support a student’s ability to discover her or his own tap voice and style.
Contemporary technique strengthens the body and focuses on interpretation and musicality. Contemporary is one of RCDA’s more popular dance styles. Exercises include ballet and jazz positions, stretching, coordination movements, turns, jumps, and floor work.
Freeing and joyful, the dance style takes its inspiration and moods directly from the music, bringing its roots and emotions into the choreographed movements. Through improvisation we strive to help students focus on interpretation & musicality. Faculty strive to help students find more personal expression in their dancing and a freedom in their movement.
Contemporary &
Improvisation
Ballet
Ballet technique is essential for the development of a strong and versatile dancer.
At RCDA beginning ballet classes focus on proper placement, body alignment & vocabulary. As students advance in technique, training encourages precision, a quickness and lightness of movement, the ability to cover space with ease and grace, and a refined carriage of the upper body. Those who develop the required strength and control are promoted to Pre-Pointe & Pointe with faculty recommendation and approval.

Jazz
Two of the most popular and well known forms of dance.
Jazz dance includes strength, flexibility and conditioning technique and progressions including turns, kicks and leaps.
Classes include warm up, isolations, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreography combinations. These classes are for dancers who like precision and rhythm, physical challenges, and style and expression. Exercises focus on increasing flexibility and strength, rhythms and isolation of body parts, balance & control.

ACTING &
Musical Theater
Musical Theatre is the fusion of singing, dancing, and acting with performance on stage. Musical Theatre class includes breathing and singing technique practice, acting and improvisation activities, as well as dance technique and performance.
These classes are for dancers who like the spotlight, drama, singing, and telling a story through dance. Exercises focus on increasing flexibility, strength, confidence, and performance. As students’ progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
Acro
& Tumbling
Acrobatic Dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context.
Acro technique includes hand balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength. Acro will work from basic tumbling skills like front and back walkovers to advanced skills like front and side ariels, back handspring & back tuck.

Cheer
Prep
Cheer Prep starts at age 3 and is a great way to gain a strong tumbling & cheer foundation. Participants will successfully master the forward & back roll, cartwheel, round off, handstand, back bend Front & back walkovers. Eventually leading to advanced skills like back handspring & back tuck.
The athlete will gain skills that will help their bodies develop to be a strong tumbler and cheerleader. The athletes will be able to perform all skills in synchronization to counts. NOW is the time to start training to join the middle school and high school cheer squads - and RCDA will help you each step of the way!
